Meal Kit Cost Calculator

The advertised from-price is not what you pay. Set your household size and dinners per week, and compare the six major US providers on the full weekly box price.

✓ Fact-checkedMads BukholtBy Mads BukholtUpdated August 17, 2026

What will a meal kit cost you?

Choose your household and how many dinners a week, and see the real weekly box price for all six providers, shipping included.

How to read this: weekly price = advertised per-serving price × servings + shipping, at full price after any welcome offer ends. Plan size can push the per-serving rate up: our August 2026 HelloFresh checks found $10.99 to $12.49 depending on configuration. Blue Apron sells a la carte and calculates shipping at checkout, so its row shows meals only.
See which kits are genuinely cheap

Per-serving prices and shipping fees are the advertised rates we track on our review pages, August 2026. Welcome discounts for new customers lower the first boxes. How we test

How we calculate this

Meal kits are marketed on headline from-prices, but the number that matters is the full weekly box price: per-serving price times servings, plus shipping. That is the formula this calculator uses, at each provider's advertised entry rate as tracked on our review pages in August 2026, before welcome discounts.

Two things this deliberately leaves out. First, welcome offers: they are real money off your first boxes, up to 50% at HelloFresh and Home Chef, but they end, and the price you should budget for is the week-six price. Second, plan-size pricing: providers charge more per serving on small plans, so treat the results as the optimistic end of the range. Our HelloFresh price check found configurations running from $10.99 up to $12.49 per serving in July and August 2026.

Where the numbers come from

  • Per-serving prices and shipping fees: our own tracked provider data, published on the HelloFresh, EveryPlate, Home Chef, Blue Apron, Green Chef, and Sunbasket reviews, August 2026.
  • Home Chef shipping is $7.99, waived on orders over $45. The calculator applies the waiver automatically.
  • Blue Apron switched to a la carte ordering with shipping calculated at checkout in its August 2025 relaunch, so its total excludes shipping.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a meal kit cost per week?
For 2 people with 3 dinners a week, expect roughly $47 to $95 depending on the provider: EveryPlate is cheapest at $5.99/serving plus $10.99 shipping, while Green Chef tops the range at $13.99/serving. Across the six providers we track, the average is around $10 per serving before shipping.
What does a meal kit cost per month?
Multiply the weekly box by how many weeks you actually order. A two-person, three-dinner plan runs from about $205 a month (EveryPlate) to about $410 (Green Chef) at full price. Skipping weeks is allowed at every provider we test, so many households land in between.
Why is my real price higher than the advertised one?
Three reasons: welcome discounts expire, small plans carry a higher per-serving rate than the advertised entry price, and shipping is added per delivery. Always check the checkout total for your exact plan size before subscribing.
Is a meal kit cheaper than groceries?
Usually not on ingredients alone. Where kits win is portion control and fewer impulse buys, plus the takeout dinners they replace. Our meal kit vs grocery store comparison walks through the honest math.
