Short answer: HelloFresh publishes around 66 recipes a week in the US, rotating weekly. Below is the full current menu with the nutrition panel for every dish — calories, protein, sodium and fiber — plus an accuracy audit of HelloFresh's own recipe filters, checked against all 206 recipes we measured. Short version of the audit: every filter is 100% accurate, but the protein and fiber filters hide more qualifying recipes than they show.
Key takeaways
- Around 66 recipes per week, rotating. Across 3 weeks we recorded 206 unique recipes.
- Typical dish: 810 kcal, 38 g protein, 1,190 mg sodium (52% of a day's limit), 6 g fiber, 30 minutes stated cook time.
- Every HelloFresh filter we could verify is 100% accurate. Across 226 tagged recipes we found zero mislabelled dishes.
- But the High Protein and High Fiber filters are conservative — 64% of untagged recipes still clear 30 g protein and 59% still clear 5 g fiber. Using those filters shrinks your choice more than it needs to.
- The Sodium Smart and Under 650 Calories filters are both accurate and near-complete, so they are safe to rely on if you need to exclude, not just prefer.
- The menu is meat-first: only 39 of 206 recipes (18.9%) are on the Veggie line.
How the HelloFresh menu works
HelloFresh publishes a new US menu every week — roughly 66 recipes in the current week (2026-W33) — and you choose your meals from it rather than receiving a fixed box. You pick how many recipes per week and how many servings each, and you can change your selection, skip a week, or cancel up to the weekly cut-off. The menu is the product; the plans are just how many items you take from it.
Recipes are organised by protein category and tagged with dietary filters. Here is how the 206 recipes we measured break down:
| Category | Recipes | Share of menu |
|---|---|---|
| Poultry | 68 | 33% |
| Beef | 40 | 19% |
| Veggie | 39 | 19% |
| Seafood | 30 | 15% |
| Pork | 25 | 12% |
| Lamb | 2 | 1% |
Poultry dominates and the Veggie line is a small minority at 18.9%. If you are vegetarian, that is the structural fact to know before subscribing — see vegetarian meal kits for kits built plant-first instead.
On timing: HelloFresh states a cook time for each recipe. Across our sample the median is 30 minutes, ranging from 10 to 75, with 52% at 30 minutes or less. The "quick" end of the menu is real, but the median dish is a half-hour of actual cooking, not fifteen minutes.
Which HelloFresh filters can you actually trust?
HelloFresh labels recipes "Sodium Smart", "Under 650 Calories", "High Protein" and "High Fiber". Those labels are only useful if they are accurate. Nobody had checked, so we did — every tagged recipe against its own published nutrition panel, across all 206 recipes.
| Filter | Recipes tagged | Rule we tested | Accuracy | Median (tagged) | Median (untagged) | Untagged that would also qualify |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Under 650 Calories | 41 | <= 650 kcal | 100% | 600 | 890 | 4 (2%) |
| Sodium Smart | 37 | <= 800 mg | 100% | 480 | 1,350 | 8 (5%) |
| High Protein | 96 | >= 30 g | 100% | 40 | 36 | 70 (64%) |
| High Fiber | 52 | >= 5 g | 100% | 7 | 5 | 91 (59%) |
Result 1: the labels are honest. All four filters held at 100%. Not one tagged recipe failed the threshold it implies. That is worth saying plainly, because it is not the norm in this category — most "healthy" labelling in meal kits is unmeasured marketing.
Result 2: two of the filters are conservative to the point of being unhelpful. 64% of the recipes HelloFresh does not tag High Protein still deliver 30 g or more, and 59% of untagged recipes still clear 5 g of fiber. If you filter the menu by High Protein you are looking at a fraction of the dishes that would actually meet your goal. For protein and fiber, read the panel rather than trusting the tag to be complete.
Result 3: sodium and calories are different. Only 8 untagged recipes would qualify as Sodium Smart and only 4 would qualify as Under 650 Calories. Those two filters are both accurate and near-exhaustive — so if you need to restrict sodium or calories for a real reason, they are dependable. Given the median untagged recipe carries 1,350 mg of sodium, the Sodium Smart filter is the single highest-leverage control in the product. It is off by default. See low-sodium meal kits for the full analysis.
One filter we could not verify: Low Added Sugar. HelloFresh publishes total sugar, not added sugar, so there is no way to check that label against its own data. We are not going to score it on a proxy.
How to choose from the menu
Our measurements point to four practical rules:
- Turn on Sodium Smart if sodium matters to you. It is accurate, near-complete, and cuts the median from 1,350 mg to 480 mg. Nothing else you can do inside the product comes close.
- Ignore the High Protein filter and read the number. The tag is accurate but hides 64% of qualifying dishes. The menu is protein-rich almost everywhere.
- Watch the crispy, glazed and sticky dishes. Sauce and coating, not the protein, drive both the sodium and the calorie extremes.
- Add your own fiber. Median 6 g per serving against a 25–38 g daily target. A side salad or a can of beans moves the needle more than switching provider.
